Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone Workshops

The following are notes taken from a Trance and Prophecy workshop by Janet Farrar & Gavin Bone 2004.

This workshop took place high in the Australian hinterlands within an octagonal temple. The ritual consisted of 30 people, as Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone correlated many traditional religions within a workable framework of the astral realms.
Gavin Bone explains that deity is a process. Deity evolves over time. As humans we put a human face on divinity. As children we draw faces on the sun and flowers.
Face – personality – archetypes. Some archetypes are thousands of years old. They can connect with the individual not just the masses. Idolatry is spirit manifest through states of being. It is an old way (prior to Christianity) of worship, service to the God/dess or Deities and the path of Magic.
There are 3 forms of Deity:

1. Primal – God/dess in nature ie. Solar, lunar, water, wind

2. Genis Loci – Deity related to specific places, the spirit of the place.

3. Ancestral – Once a real person. A work or craft god/dess.

The invocation of Deities

Traditional witchcraft is trance possession. Not all god/dess are witchcraft related, but all witchcraft god/dess are trance god/desses.
Trance is the communication with deity inside the head with visualization or trance possession by inviting them in.
Janet Farrar; a Priestess of Wicca explains that Priest/ess should not be used as hierarchy but connect to specific deity. The priest/ess serves the deity. It is a one on one relationship. Priest/ess is a job. Initiation comes from deity. True initiation is spirit. Trance possession is known as 'being ridden by the Loa".
Divinity cannot enter if ego is in the way. Deity has an aura – personality – a mental and emotional aura. Deity comes in through the crown chakra. Vision and seeing means the third eye is lined up. Speaking in tongues or speaking as god/dess means the throat chakra is lined up and open. These energy wheels spin together and energy comes through the back and out to the front. It is not channeling but possession.

Going down to the gates by travelling the World Tree is getting away from ego. Get guidance from deities – ask for help. When Deity comes through they have a purpose. The more people, the greater the attraction. Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone conduct many rituals invoking the Deities.
The five-fold kiss opens the chakras. Sacred breathing is charging the chakras.
Sublimation of ego and persona can be achieved by:

1. Hypnotic induction

2. Drumming

3. Intoxication

4. Visualization

5. Chanting

6. Masks

The World Tree and Astral Realms

The moon comes out in darkness – lunar realm – underworld – witchcraft god/dess about trance – trance is about descending the world tree.

Anticlockwise is going down – spiraling to the left opens lunar side of the brain.

The ancestral realm and collective memory is below – past the gates of the underworld.

Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone explained how the world tree – Axis mundi is the center of the collective world. This World Tree exists in every culture. The visually conscious mind is cloaked in ego. What is seen on the astral plane is cloaked by the ego. You can ask guides to unmask themselves and reveal true form.

Balance the four elements by the journey to and balance underworld – face fears – then you can understand ego – then you can understand why the ego cloaks.

The world mountain is the consciousness of gods manifest. They are manifest on the highest astral super consciousness. The guardians of the gates also guard the valves (chakras) on an astral level and intellectually.
Balance the four elements within the four elements. The guardian of the underworld will deny access until you are ready. The guide is your power animal as per shamanism. (Different to totem animal). The underworld guide is usually human and animal. Pagan deity with animals has underworld ability. Blacksmiths are linked with sorcery.

The astral guardian is our higher self. It is permanently connected to the unknowable divine. Its symbolism may take the form of a deity, when someone dedicates to serve a particular god/dess, this is a primary life guide. The astral guide is usually only encountered in the upper realms.

The underworld guide is the psycho pompous and power animal. This should be actively sought by descending the world tree via the id. You need to connect with this guide regularly. You need to dance with it to maintain the bridge between animal consciousness and the human. The guardian of mysteries protects those unready to explore mysteries. It guards the entrance to the underworld and the realm of the ancestors.
